Advanced Planning Visit (APV) in Zanzibar

Updated: May 29

As part of our project STARRY – Solidarity Targeted Activities Run by Rising Youth, under the ESC Humanitarian Aid program, we conducted an Advanced Planning Visit (APV) in Zanzibar, Tanzania, from March 22 to 26, 2025.

The visit was hosted by our local partner, the Assalam Community Foundation (ACF), an organisation deeply committed to fostering PEACE—Permaculture, Education, Art & Culture, Community, and Empowerment. ACF’s holistic approach aligns with several UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in the areas of education, gender equality, climate action, and economic empowerment.

During the APV, representatives from the supporting organisations EPEKA and Building Bridges visited the ACF campus in Kizimkazi Mkunguni, where all volunteer activities will be based. Meetings were held with ACF staff, educators, and program coordinators to fine-tune logistics, review volunteer roles, and ensure the alignment of project goals with community needs.

The visit also included site tours of the Assalam International School, Vocational Training Center, Youth Center, and Children University—all central to the upcoming volunteering activities. These programs will see ESC volunteers engaged in tasks ranging from educational support and arts facilitation to vocational training and youth leadership development.

The APV was essential in strengthening cooperation, ensuring readiness, and laying the groundwork for a meaningful, safe, and impactful volunteering experience that reflects the spirit and values of the STARRY project.
